The Fishing   Rating: Good

A real mixed fishery if ever there was, this venue definitely has something for everyone from small carp and tench lakes to the bigger specimen carp and catfish waters. There are match lakes and even a winding 'river style' lake known as the maze which has some unusual as well as ornamental fish. Those anglers seeking the specimen carp should head head straight to the back of the venue to either Tuscany or Snipe lake. Both of these lakes hold carp in excess of 30lb and Snipe also has catfish in excess of 40lb. The best methods on these lakes tend to be the usual 'tight to the features' or 'margin' tactics in conjunction with high quality bait. If you plan on targeting the catfish you should arm yourself with the compulsory luncheon meat, or for something different try trolling a deadbait accross the surface for some explosive late night takes.

The Lakes

1. Snipe Lake:  [specimen carp and catfish]
The first lake to be built at Beaver Farm, stocked with carp, tench and catfish. Approximately two and a half acres in size with a central island, the average depth of water is three and a half to four feet, with a few even shallower spots and some deep areas dropping off to six feet. Snipe lake is a specimen lake; the carp have grown to over 35 lbs and certain restrictions are enforced to protect the fish. Snipe lake has produced four different grass carp over 24 lbs, the biggest being 32 lbs, mirror carp to 35 lbs, common carp to 32 lbs, and catfish to 50 lbs.

2. Tuscany Lake:  [specimen carp and catfish]
Tuscany lake is the nearest to the main angler’s car park and is the deepest water on the site. The average depth is thirteen feet and it is one and a half acres in size. The lake incorporates an inflow from Jeff’s Lake and an outflow over an aquaduct that takes the overspill across the Eden Brook. Tuscany Lake is a specimen lake holding catfish over 50 lbs and carp over 33 lbs, plus tench to 10 lbs. This lake produces lots of 20lb plus catfish.

3. Jeffs Lake:  [specimen carp and tench]
This lake utilises a good inflow from the Mill Race and the cascade waterfall outflow increase the water aeration to the benefit of the ecology of the brook. A pretty lake, now with good marginal plant growth, it has been converted to coarse fishing and contains a variety of species with some specimen carp, tench and pike, along with large bream, roach, rudd and perch.

4.  The Major's Lake:  [specimen carp and pike]
This was built as a match fishing lake, but now holds specimen carp and pike to 30 lbs. This three acre water incorporates a long central island and has an average depth of three feet. Thirty four pegs are available and it is very popular for match bookings and the specimen hunters alike! The lake is well stocked with bream to 8 lbs, tench to 7 lbs, roach to 2 lbs, perch to 2lb 8 oz, pike to 30 lbs, carp to 20 lbs, rudd, ide, skimmers, and golden rudd.

5.  Maze Lake:  [match lake]
The unique maze lake was designed for the match fisherman, incorporating three long islands; the channels thus created have a deeper central section simulating a canal and providing space for fifty pegs. Constructed in 1995, it is stocked with carp, rudd, tench, roach, bream and skimmers. Bags in matches have been over 35 lbs top catch 123 lbs, for pleasure fishing over 70 lbs.

6.  Moat Farm Pond:  [mid sized carp]
Moat Farm Pond near the southern boundary has existed for many years as an old farm pond. Cleaned out and enlarged in 1994, this secluded, peaceful pond is a favourite and seems to fish well in any conditions.. Well stocked with carp and tench, it also holds a few larger fish to over 18 lbs.

7.  Daughters Lake:  [specimen carp and unusual species]
A small one and a half acre lake to the west of Moat Farm Pond. Stocked with barbel, sturgeon, chub, grass carp and other unusual fish. The lake has good marginal growth and plenty of lilies.

8.  Eden Pond:  [mainly tench]
A peaceful pond at the far end of the fishery, this water is mainly full of tench. It is stocked with tench to 10 lb+, crucian carp, rudd and roach.

9.  Junior Lake:  [silver fish and tench]
This attractive lake has a couple of islands and supports very good plant life. The lake is stocked with a lot of small fish for young anglers, and also has some nice big golden tench.
